Neal J. Fasula Scholarship Fund
Gerrity’s Supermarkets, the Fasula family and the Scranton Area Foundation are pleased to announce the 2012 Neal J. Fasula Scholarship Fund. Neal J. Fasula was owner of Gerrity’s Supermarkets for nearly 30 years. This scholarship was created in his memory to honor his contributions to the food industry and to the employees of Gerrity’s Supermarkets.
Eligible employees or their dependent children to age 23 can apply each year for a scholarship award for the upcoming school year. Monies will be available for the 2012-2013 school years.
Applications must be submitted to Gerrity’s Human Resources Department by February 29, 2012. Winners will be announced in June 2012.
Amount of the award
Determined yearly by the available income of the fund and number of recipients.
Who is eligible?
- Full or part time employees are eligible to apply each year;
- Employees must be employed for 12 continuous months and work a minimum of 750 hours per year.
- Dependent children to age 23 of an Employee that has been employed for 5 consecutive yearsand work a minimum of 1250 hours per year.
Considerations
- Applicants should:
- Display good citizenship, a good attitude and service to others.
- Maintain a desire for an educational opportunity.
- Employment is in good standing with above average performance.
- Maintain a 2.5 GPA.
Preference will be given to those enrolled as a full time student with a minimum of 12 credits in an accredited degree-granting institution of higher education.
Recipients are limited to a maximum of 4 years.
Recipients or parents of recipients must be actively employed at the time of the scholarship disbursement.
How to apply
Each year an employee or their dependent children can apply to be considered for the following school year.
- Applications must be submitted annually to Gerrity’s Supermarkets Human Resources Department.
- Recipients will be chosen by a Gerrity’s Committee.
- Applications must be submitted to Gerrity’s Human Resources Department.
